Teresa Scanlan |
A new Miss America was crowned last night -- and she's got some harsh words for Wikileaks founder Julian Assange.
Teresa Scanlan, a 17-year-old from Nebraska, was asked during the question portion of the pageant what her thoughts were about Wikileaks.
"You know when it came to that situation," Scanlan reasoned, "it was actually based on espionage, and when it comes to the security of our nation, we have to focus on security first and then people's right to know.
"It's important that everybody who's in our borders is safe and so we can't let things like that happen, and they must be handled properly."
Scanlan is the youngest winner since the pageant's first competition in 1921, when Margaret Gorman won at age 15.
